Franco-Congolese defender Nordi Mukiele ready to fight for Sunderland after switching from PSG
France international of DR Congo descent Nordi Mukiele is determined to fight for Sunderland after switching from Paris Saint Germain this summer.
Mukiele joins the Black Cats on a four-year deal on a transfer fee worth €12 million, marking a significant step in his career.
The 27-year-old versatile full-back arrives as one of the most high-profile signings in recent club history, underlining Sunderland’s growing ambition.
Mukiele, who can operate both as a right-back and centre-back, brings valuable experience from his time in Ligue 1 and the Champions League.
“This is a new challenge, and I am happy to be here. I saw the atmosphere at the stadium, and that’s something I really love”
“Fans are hugely important in football, especially here at Sunderland. I came here to fight for them. I see good players and I see their quality, so I believe we can achieve something special together – and when I say “together,” I mean the players, the fans, and the city. We’ll need everyone this season” he said.
Sunderland made a brilliant start to the campaign, inflicting a 3-0 win over West Ham United at the Stadium of Light.
The English-Congolese defender joined PSG from German outfit RB Leipzig in 2022 for €12 million but failed to secure a regular starting spot, making just 45 appearances for the Parisians and providing 4 assists during his stint.
However, the move offers Mukiele the opportunity to revive his sinking football career at Sunderland.
The 27-year-old has chosen the number 20 shirt and will play alongside Granit Xhaka – his former teammate at Bayer Leverkusen.
