ALGERIA: MAJID BOUGHERRA INTERESTS MARSEILLE
With the impending confirmations of César Azpilicueta and Stéphane Mbia’s departures, Marseille might finally be able to initiate a somewhat calm transfer window, although time is running out.
As the club has been actively seeking sales throughout the summer, only the departure of Alou Diarra has provided Marseille with some financial relief. This situation has kept the club’s leaders in a holding pattern, waiting for certain players’ departures to facilitate progress in their transfer window.
Recent reports suggest that the club is considering Algerian international Majid Bougherra. This interest is not new, as the former Glasgow Rangers defender has been on the radar of Marseille’s José Anigo for several years. In an interview with France Football, the Fennecs captain confirmed Marseille’s interest, stating, “Yes, OM contacted me. My club told me of the interest from Olympian training. I know they are really interested in my profile.”
The key question remains whether Captain Majid has the ability to single-handedly compensate for the departure of two of the club’s best defenders, especially considering his recent tenure with Lekhwiya in Qatar.
