Ivorian midfielder Ismaila Soro is on the verge of returning to Scottish football, with Falkirk FC close to securing his signature on a two-year contract.

The 27-year-old, who has been a free agent since parting ways with Israeli side Beitar Jerusalem at the end of June, has spent the past few weeks seeking a new club for the coming season.

Determined to return to European football, Soro had been linked with a move to Ligue 1 outfit Le Havre AC, but has instead chosen a familiar setting to reignite his career.

According to sources, the former Celtic player recently joined Falkirk’s training sessions, where his performances quickly impressed the coaching staff.

The club, currently 11th in the Scottish Premiership after two matches – one defeat and one draw – has moved swiftly to finalise the deal.

The offer on the table is believed to run until 2027, with the agreement expected to be confirmed in the coming days.

Soro’s arrival would mark a return to Scotland two years after leaving Celtic Glasgow, where he spent three seasons between 2020 and 2022.

His familiarity with the league and Scottish football culture is seen as a key factor in his decision, as he seeks a fresh start and the opportunity to re-establish himself in a competitive environment.

Falkirk, operating on a modest budget, have been searching for affordable reinforcements during the summer transfer window.

Soro’s status as a free agent makes him an attractive option, particularly given his experience at both domestic and international level. His current market value is listed at €750,000, according to Transfermarkt.

The club’s management is hopeful that Soro’s defensive midfield qualities will add much-needed solidity to the team. Known for his tenacity, ball-winning ability, and composure under pressure, the Ivorian is expected to provide stability in the centre of the pitch and help strengthen Falkirk’s push for improved results.

Falkirk’s upcoming fixture list adds further significance to the potential signing. The Bairns will soon face Celtic Glasgow in the second preliminary round of the Scottish League Cup – a match that could see Soro come up against his former club in what would be a swift reunion on the pitch.

For Soro, the move represents an opportunity to rebuild momentum in his career after spells in Israel and Cyprus, and to once again compete in a league where he previously showcased his abilities.

For Falkirk, it signals intent to bolster the squad with proven talent as they aim to climb the Premiership standings.

With negotiations at an advanced stage, the deal is expected to be finalised shortly, officially marking Soro’s return to Scottish football and offering Falkirk fans a glimpse of a player with both experience and determination to make his mark once again.
