Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou has acknowledged preparations towards the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament are going well after joining his teammates.

The CAF Goalkeeper of the Year joined the Morocco camp on Thursday, January 4, 2024, with preparations ongoing ahead of their trip to Ivory Coast.

Bounou has said the team will keep their usual mentality to achieve satisfying results in their opening match and the subsequent games.

“Preparations are going well alongside the rest of the players. This is a new challenge. We will keep the usual mindset to deliver a satisfying performance in the first match,” Bounou said.

“I would like to thank all Moroccan fans who always support the team, and we hope they will be present in order to achieve great results altogether,” he went on to say.”

The 2022 World Cup semi-finalists will begin their AFCON campaign against Tanzania on January 17, 2024, in San Pedro.

Walid Regragui’s side will face DR Congo and Zambia in the remaining group phase matches, where they hope to advance to the next round of the tournament.

Morocco are highly tipped to compete for the ultimate prize in Ivory Coast following their historic exploits at the World Cup in Qatar.

The Atlas Lions became the first-ever African side to reach the last four of the World Cup, having beaten Belgium, Spain, and Portugal en-route to the remarkable success.
