Al Ahly are gearing up for their Egyptian League opener against Modern Sport on Saturday with a trimmed squad and a determined mood.
The reigning champions will begin a closed training camp on Friday evening, where the final touches will be made ahead of the big game.
Spanish coach Jose Riveiro has settled on his 20-man list, led by experienced goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shenawy, along with Mostafa Shobeir, Yassin Marei, Yasser Ibrahim, Ashraf Dari, Mohamed Shukry, Mostafa El-Ash, Karim Fouad, Ahmed Nabil Kouka, Mohamed Hany, Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane, Trezeguet, Ahmed Reda, Aliou Dieng, Afsha, Ahmed Sayed Zizo, Taher Mohamed, Ashraf Bencharki, Gradishar, and Mohamed Sherif.
However, the squad will miss seven familiar faces. Marawan Attia and Emam Ashour are sidelined by injuries, while Ahmed Abdelkader, Mohamed Siha, Hussein El Shahat, Ahmed Ramadan Beckham, and Omar Kamal Abdel Wahed have been left out for technical reasons.
With depth tested early in the season, Al Ahly’s focus will be on starting strong and showing they can adapt under pressure.
