Comorian defender Warmed Omari joins Hamburg on loan from Stade Rennais
Hamburg SV have confirmed the signing of Comorian international Warmed Omari on a season-long loan from Stade Rennais, with the deal including an option to buy.
The 25-year-old centre-back completed his medical at UKE Athleticum on August 6 before putting pen to paper at the Volksparkstadion. His arrival comes just over a week ahead of the Bundesliga season kick-off, as Hamburg look to solidify their defensive line.
Omari, who has earned nine caps for the Comoros national team, brings a combination of physical presence and technical proficiency to the Rothosen’s backline.
Described as a modern central defender, the French-born player is expected to provide versatility and depth to a Hamburg defence aiming to compete strongly in the top flight.
Born on 23 April 2000 in Bandraboua, Mayotte, Omari was raised in the Grésilles district of Dijon before joining the youth academy at Stade Rennais at the age of 14.
His professional debut came on 15 August 2021 in a Ligue 1 fixture against Brest, marking the beginning of his rise within French football.
Omari made a total of 94 appearances for Rennes across all competitions, including eight matches in the UEFA Europa League and five in the UEFA Europa Conference League.
Last season, he was loaned out to Olympique Lyonnais, though the move did not yield the regular game time he had hoped for.
Despite a challenging year in Lyon, Hamburg’s sporting director Claus Costa expressed confidence in Omari’s ability to make an impact.
“Warmed is a modern central defender with interesting qualities,” Costa said. “He is quick, technically sound, and comfortable playing out from the back.
He’s also intelligent and brave. His presence will add a new dynamic to our defensive unit. Even though last season was a quiet one for him, we have no doubt about his potential and are thrilled to welcome him.”
Omari, who will wear the number 17 shirt, has already joined Hamburg’s training camp in Mallorca, where he has begun integrating with his new teammates. Speaking after finalising the move, the defender said he was enthusiastic about the challenge ahead.
“My conversations with the sporting directors and the coach were very positive, and I immediately felt the club’s trust,” Omari said. “I’m looking forward to meeting my new teammates and contributing to HSV’s objectives for the season.”
With the Bundesliga campaign fast approaching, Hamburg are hopeful that Omari’s experience at both domestic and European levels will provide the team with the necessary composure and stability at the back.
His signing represents another step in Hamburg’s broader efforts to strengthen the squad and secure their place in Germany’s top division.
As preparations continue, all eyes will be on Omari to see whether he can revive his form and establish himself as a key figure in the Hamburg defence.
