Newcastle United have made a formal cash offer to sign AC Milan centre-back Malick Thiaw, as they intensify efforts to strengthen their defence ahead of the new Premier League season.

Thiaw, who was born in Germany to Senegalese parents, has emerged as a key target for the Magpies following the collapse of talks with Crystal Palace over England international Marc Guehi.

With defensive reinforcements high on the agenda at St. James’ Park, Newcastle have now turned their attention to the 22-year-old Milan defender.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Newcastle’s bid is understood to be in the region of €30 million—an amount that is within the valuation Milan are reportedly seeking for the German international.

The Rossoneri are, however, weighing multiple options, including a potential player swap deal with Juventus that would see Thiaw head to Turin in exchange for Serbian striker Dušan Vlahović.

The situation is further complicated by the views of new Milan head coach Massimiliano Allegri, who is believed to rate Thiaw highly and may be reluctant to sanction his departure without a suitable replacement lined up.

Thiaw made 28 appearances in Serie A last season and has grown into a dependable figure in Milan’s back line since joining from Schalke in 2022.

Newcastle’s proposal remains on the table and could gain traction if Milan decide against the Juventus exchange or fail to agree terms with the Bianconeri.

The Magpies are keen to finalise their defensive recruitment swiftly, having already added depth in midfield and attack during the summer window.

With Milan yet to make a final decision, Thiaw’s future hangs in the balance, and Newcastle remain hopeful that their offer will be enough to lure the defender to the Premier League.
