Cédric Makiadi Retires from DR Congo National Team
At just 31 years old, Cédric Makiadi has decided to step away from international football, announcing his retirement from the DR Congo national team.
The midfielder, currently playing for Turkish club Rizespor, declined a call-up for the upcoming qualifier against the Central African Republic on September 5, opting to make way for younger players in the squad.
National team coach Florent Ibenge praised Makiadi’s decision, revealing that the veteran has promised to return in a different capacity after his playing career.
“He preferred to leave room for the young people in our team and promised me to come back to work at the end of his career in the technical management of the Leopards,” Ibenge said.
Makiadi, who had a notable club career including a stint at Werder Bremen, earned 25 caps and scored twice for the Leopards. He represented DR Congo in the 2013 and 2015 Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, bringing valuable experience to the national side during his tenure.
