Nigeria will be without its captain, Joseph Yobo, for the second leg of the CAN 2013 qualifiers against Liberia. The team manager, Ben Alaiya, revealed that Yobo is suffering from knee pain, an injury sustained during a recent championship match with his club, Fenerbahçe. Alaiya mentioned, “Yobo will probably miss the match against Liberia because he is suffering from his knee,” indicating that there is only a 30% chance of him playing. In light of the circumstances, the decision has been made not to risk the player’s health.
This is not the first time Yobo has been affected by knee issues. In September, he was substituted during the 2-0 draw against Liberia, and his knee problems also prevented him from participating in the three Super Eagles matches last June. The crucial match between Nigeria and Liberia is scheduled to take place in Calabar as both teams vie for a spot in CAN 2013.
