In a generous move to bolster support for the national football team, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has directed that two thousand fans will only bear 50% of the travel expenses to Ivory Coast, where the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) will take place, announced the Algerian Football Federation on Thursday.
The official statement reads, “As part of the support for the national football team participating in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, the Algerian Football Federation informs the fans and supporters of the national team that President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has given instructions to cover 50% of the travel costs to Ivory Coast for two thousand supporters through the Algerian travel and tourism company ‘Touring.'”
The objective behind this decision is to allow fans of the “Green Team” to be close to their national team during the matches of this continental competition.
As is often the case, ticket sales are expected to face the risk of overcrowding as enthusiastic fans aim to secure one of the 2000 tickets, which will be sold at half price.
Algeria, led by coach Djamel Belmadi, is participating in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations scheduled from January 13 to February 11.
Belmadi unveiled the squad of 26 players selected for this African competition on Friday, with Algeria placed in Group D alongside Angola, Burkina Faso, and Mauritania, according to the draw.
