Luca Zidane’s tenure at Granada CF appears to be nearing its end, with the Spanish second-division side reportedly preparing to relegate the 27-year-old goalkeeper to a backup role next season due to ongoing concerns over his consistency.

The son of legendary footballer Zinedine Zidane, Luca has struggled to secure long-term stability in his career, despite experience at several Spanish clubs including Real Madrid, Racing Santander, Rayo Vallecano, SD Eibar, and most recently, Granada.

While his name remains familiar to followers of French football due to occasional links with the national team, his performances at the club level have not lived up to expectations.

Granada, who were relegated from La Liga and now compete in the Segunda División, are reportedly losing faith in Zidane’s ability to command the No.1 spot.

According to Spanish outlet Estadio Deportivo, the club is actively considering alternatives for the starting goalkeeper position, leaving Zidane facing the likelihood of serving as a second-choice option if he remains.

Zidane’s mixed heritage, as a French, Algerian, and Spanish national, has at times kept him on the radar of national selectors, particularly within the French Football Federation (FAF), who are said to be aware of his presence.

However, his inability to fully establish himself as a top-tier goalkeeper at any of his previous clubs continues to hinder his ascent on the international stage.

The uncertainty surrounding his future has reportedly sparked interest beyond Spain. French daily L’Équipe has revealed that Paris FC, a Ligue 2 club competing in France’s second division, are eyeing a move for Zidane.

However, any potential transfer would not come with a guarantee of regular playing time. At Paris FC, the goalkeeping position is currently held by Obed Nkambadio, who has been in solid form and is widely seen as undroppable.

Should Zidane opt for a move to Paris FC, he would find familiar company in a multicultural dressing room. Algerian players Ilan Kebbal and Samir Chergui are part of the squad, potentially offering the Franco-Algerian goalkeeper a supportive environment during any transition.

Nevertheless, the offer from Paris FC, which is reportedly for a backup role, may do little to advance Zidane’s long-term ambitions. For a player once seen as a potential heir to his father’s illustrious footballing legacy, the current crossroads in his career could prove decisive.

Zidane’s dilemma illustrates the challenges faced by goalkeepers trying to break through in elite football, where opportunities are few and the margin for error is narrow.

While his early promise and high-profile surname have kept him in the public eye, Zidane’s performances have not consistently matched the expectations placed upon him.

As the summer transfer window progresses, it remains to be seen whether the French Spanish Algerian shot-stopper will attempt to revive his career in a new setting or stay and fight for his place in Andalusia.

What is clear, however, is that his future at Granada hangs in the balance, with club officials no longer convinced that he is the man to lead them between the posts.
