Peniel Mlapa Joins VfL Bochum, Remains Undecided on Togo National Team
VfL Bochum have officially completed the signing of 24-year-old striker Peniel Mlapa. The German second division side had announced the move several weeks ago, but now the former German youth international has formally joined the club. Details of the contract, including its duration and financial terms, have not been disclosed.
Born in Lomé, Togo, Mlapa moved to Germany at a young age and began his football journey with TSV 1860 Munich at just eight years old. He progressed through all youth levels with the club and made his professional debut on October 4, 2009, at the age of 18.
His career has since included stints with several Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga clubs, including TSG Hoffenheim, Borussia Mönchengladbach, and 1. FC Nürnberg. Despite a career marked by early promise and powerful physical attributes, consistency has eluded him at the top level.
Though he has been long courted by the Togolese national team, Mlapa remains hesitant about donning the Hawks jersey. For now, he has yet to make a definitive decision on his international future, keeping his options open.
At Bochum, Mlapa will be aiming to relaunch his career and establish himself as a key offensive weapon as the club targets promotion to the Bundesliga.
