CAMEROON: PROFESSIONAL CLUBS ON STRIKE

Emile Onambele Zibi President De LAcec1 300x168 1

Clubs affiliated with professional football championships in Cameroon, represented by the Association of Elite Clubs of Cameroon (Acec), announced their intention to boycott the first and second division championships (MTN Elite One and MTN Elite Two). The boycott was scheduled to take effect from April 22, 2013, due to their demand for the state subsidy for so-called “professional” clubs, amounting to 560 million CFA francs. The clubs, facing financial challenges exacerbated by delayed quarterly disbursements from the state subsidy, emphasized the unbearable situation and cited strikes by managers and players. They also expressed concern about the unpaid compensation of referees and match commissioners, stating that financial difficulties make them susceptible to corruption. Additionally, the clubs protested against the negotiation of the contract between the Cameroonian national television (CRTV) and the league, claiming they were not adequately involved in the process. The Cameroon Professional Football League (LFPC) responded by expressing respect for the decision and emphasizing its commitment to scheduling meetings.
