Aïssa Mandi Targeted by Italian Clubs, But Reims Coach Hopes to Retain Him
Algerian international Aïssa Mandi is attracting strong interest from Genoa and Atalanta, raising the possibility of a move to Serie A before the transfer window closes. However, Stade de Reims head coach Olivier Guégan is determined to keep the versatile defender.
Speaking to France Bleu Champagne, Guégan emphasized Mandi’s importance to his squad:
“As I speak to you, there is nothing concrete and I am very hopeful that he will stay with us. The transfer window ends at the end of August and we do not know what can happen between now and then, but once again, I hope that he stays with us and he tells me that he wants to stay with us. He will be a leader of the group, an important player in the group.”
Guégan also acknowledged the unpredictability of the transfer market, especially when significant financial offers are involved:
“My message to Aïssa and his agent (Patrick Glanz) has always been clear: I want Aïssa in my squad to play in central defense. Aïssa is interested in the sporting project. Now, football is such that if there is an offer with a lot of money, it will be difficult to refuse for the club and for the player.”
With just weeks remaining in the transfer window, the future of Aïssa Mandi remains uncertain, though both player and coach appear aligned for now.
