‘Isak is the best striker in the world’ – Anthony Elanga confident Newcastle star will stay amid Liverpool interest
Newcastle United forward Anthony Elanga has expressed confidence that teammate Alexander Isak will remain with the Magpies despite growing transfer speculation linking the Swedish striker with a move to Liverpool.
Elanga, who has Cameroonian heritage, joined Newcastle this summer and has already forged a strong relationship with Isak both on and off the pitch.
Speaking about the Liverpool interest in his fellow attacker, Elanga maintained that Isak remains focused and committed to Newcastle.
“There’s always going to be noise around him but, at the end of the day, he’s a Newcastle United player right now,” said Elanga.
“For me, I’m just trying to focus on what he’s doing in training and speaking to him every day.”
Isak, who has been rated at around £120 million by Newcastle, remains a key figure for manager Eddie Howe, and the club has consistently reiterated that the 25-year-old is not for sale under any circumstances.
Elanga, a £55 million signing, praised Isak’s influence in the squad and highlighted the mentorship role he has already played since his arrival.
“Alex, for me, is the best striker in the world and someone that, not just footballer wise, but also off the pitch, is an amazing person and someone I can always rely on to go for advice,” he added.
“He’s like my big brother in a sense. I appreciate him a lot.”
Elanga also shared that their conversations go beyond football, revealing a personal connection that has helped him settle into the squad.
“Whenever I speak to Alex it’s always about good things – how my family is, how his family is… that’s the first thing he asked me,” Elanga said.
“What he’s shown in training is second to none and I’m looking forward to continuing training with him.”
