Patrick Agyemang’s swift journey from draft pick to European football has taken another leap as the striker signs a four-year deal with English Championship club Derby County.
The 24-year-old forward joins from Major League Soccer club Charlotte FC for a reported fee of around $8 million plus add-ons. The deal marks a major step in Agyemang’s fast-moving career, just two-and-a-half years after being drafted 12th overall in the 2023 MLS SuperDraft.
His rise has been impressive. Agyemang scored 22 goals in 72 appearances across all competitions for Charlotte and earned five goals in 12 games with the U.S. Men’s National Team. His standout form was rewarded with a spot in the 2025 MLS All-Star squad.
Though he’s been playing most of this season with a hernia injury, which required careful management, Agyemang is set to undergo surgery and will likely miss the start of the 2025/26 campaign. The transfer remains subject to international clearance.
Derby fans will be eager to see their new forward in action once fit, hoping his MLS success translates in England’s second tier.
