Morocco bounced back in dramatic fashion to beat DR Congo 4–2 in an entertaining 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Group A match on Wednesday night in Rabat.
DR Congo got off to a flying start when Merveille Kanjinga scored in the 6th minute after a sharp assist from Naomie Kabakaba. But Morocco responded through skipper Ghizlane Chebbak, who struck in the 25th minute following a clever setup from Ibtissam Jraidi.
Chebbak wasn’t done yet. The captain added a second goal in the 43rd minute, giving Morocco a 2–1 lead heading into the break.
The Leopards came back fighting. Flavine Mawete leveled things up in the 70th minute with help from Marlène Kasaj. But once again, Chebbak stepped up, completing her hat-trick just five minutes later after a fine assist by Imène El Ghazouani.
Morocco sealed the win in the 83rd minute when Yasmin M’Rabet converted from the spot, wrapping up a deserved three points for the hosts in front of their home fans.
