French-Beninese forward Alan Virginius commits to Young Boys in permanent deal from LOSC

French-Beninese forward Alan Virginius commits to Young Boys in permanent deal from LOSC

Alan Virginius has completed a permanent transfer from Lille OSC to Young Boys, bringing an end to his loan spell in Switzerland with a long-term contract that runs until 2029.

The 22-year-old attacking midfielder, who joined the Swiss Super League side on loan from LOSC last season, impressed the club’s hierarchy with a string of promising performances.

Virginius featured in 45 matches across all competitions during the campaign, contributing seven goals and four assists to help Young Boys secure a third-place finish in the league.

His standout moment came in August 2024, when he scored the decisive goal in a crucial 1-0 away victory over Galatasaray Istanbul.

That strike proved pivotal as it sealed Young Boys’ progression into the UEFA Champions League group stage—a milestone that underlined the Frenchman’s growing influence within the squad.

Young Boys formally confirmed the deal on Tuesday, highlighting the club’s confidence in the player’s future. “The sporting management is convinced that Virginius is far from having completed his development and that the experiences of last season will have a positive impact on his future,” the Swiss outfit stated in their official announcement.

Known for his blistering pace and attacking versatility, Virginius has built a reputation as a forward with significant promise. A product of France’s youth national team system, he has earned 24 caps at various age levels, including a recent appearance for the France U21 side.

His permanent signing represents a strategic investment by Young Boys, who view him as a central figure in their ongoing efforts to challenge for domestic honours and make their mark on the European stage.

The club’s decision to offer him a contract through to 2029 is a clear signal of their long-term plans to develop and integrate his talents further into their first-team setup.

Virginius’ development has been closely monitored since his early years in France, where he emerged as a bright prospect at Sochaux before making the move to Lille in 2022.

Despite limited opportunities in Ligue 1, his move to Switzerland proved to be a turning point, allowing him to find regular game time and showcase his attacking flair.

The Frenchman’s transition to Young Boys has not only benefited the club on the pitch but has also elevated his status within European football circles.

His ability to operate across the forward line, coupled with his explosive acceleration and eye for goal, makes him a valuable asset in both domestic and continental competitions.

Young Boys will now look to build on his contributions from last season as they prepare for the new campaign. With Virginius now a permanent member of the squad, expectations are high that he will play an even greater role in the club’s ambitions over the coming years.

For Virginius, the move offers stability and the opportunity to continue progressing in an environment that has already proven fruitful. With Champions League football once again on the horizon, the stage is set for the French forward to take the next step in what promises to be a promising career.
