Europa League Glory for Mbia and Sevilla
Cameroonian midfielder Stéphane Mbia played a key role as Sevilla FC clinched the UEFA Europa League title for the second consecutive year, edging Dnipro 3-2 in Wednesday night’s final.
It was a hard-fought victory for the Spanish side, who missed out on Champions League qualification via La Liga on the final day, finishing behind Valencia.
Speaking to France Football, Mbia expressed his delight: “We fought until the last moment in La Liga. After missing out on the Champions League through the league, the manager told us this final meant everything. Tonight, we’ve been rewarded.”
Sevilla’s victory not only secured European silverware but also guaranteed them a Champions League spot for the first time since the 2009–2010 season.
Mbia also dedicated the win to manager Unai Emery’s late father. “It’s a reward for the work the coach has done over the last two years. He lost his father this month – we dedicate this victory to him.”
He praised Emery’s tactical preparation and the team’s resilience: “We reacted in the second half with physical intensity. The coach insisted we win the midfield battle, and we did just that.”
Sevilla’s triumph confirms their dominance in the competition, lifting the trophy for a record fourth time.
