Wydad Athletic Club to part ways with 21 players ahead of 2025/26 season

Moroccan heavyweights Wydad Athletic Club are set to release 21 players in a sweeping squad overhaul following a disappointing 2024–25 campaign.

Despite finishing third in the domestic league, Wydad endured a forgettable outing at the FIFA Club World Cup, crashing out in the group stage after losing all three matches to Manchester City, Juventus, and Al Ain.

In a move to rejuvenate the team, head coach Mohamed Amine Benhachem has reportedly finalized a list of departures, which includes several seasoned names.

Among the most notable exits are goalkeeper Youssef El Moutie and defenders Aymane Dairani, Abdelmounaim Boutouil, Jamal Harkass, Nabil Marmouk, and Fahd Moufi.

The midfield and attack will also see significant changes, with Ismail Moutaraji, Pedrinho, Arthur Wenderroscky, Mehdi Moubarik, Stéphane Aziz Ki, Saifeddine Bouhra, and Walid Nassi all heading for the exit.

Additionally, a number of younger or fringe players — including Ayoub Marsa, Rayhi, Ghilane, and Obang — will also leave as part of the restructuring.

Wydad’s management is aiming to rebuild a squad capable of competing both domestically and on the continental stage.

Improving tactical cohesion and reinforcing squad depth are expected to be central themes of their upcoming campaign. The mass clearout is seen as a crucial first step toward restoring the club’s status among Africa’s elite.
