PSG Poised for Ligue 1 Title Tonight: Matuidi Eyes Historic Season
Just one point—that’s all Paris Saint-Germain needs to secure the 2014–15 Ligue 1 title. Blaise Matuidi and his teammates head to La Mosson to face Montpellier in Matchday 37, knowing that even a draw will be enough to seal the deal.
Following Lyon’s recent loss to Caen, PSG has opened up a six-point lead at the top of the table, with a superior goal difference. Victory or a draw tonight would officially crown them champions of France.
“It could be a great day for us, and we’re going to do our best to make it happen,” said Matuidi, speaking to football365. “We know it won’t be easy against a team fighting for the Europa League, but we’re going there to win—just like always.”
PSG is on the verge of completing a domestic treble, having already claimed the Trophée des Champions and the Coupe de la Ligue. They’ll also play in the Coupe de France final, with the chance to claim a fourth trophy.
“If we win these four titles, we can say we’ve made progress,” Matuidi added. “People will talk about the Champions League, where we lost to maybe the best team in Europe—Barcelona—but we also knocked out the English champions [Chelsea]. The season hasn’t been perfect, but the titles are there. I hope this will be a historic season.”
All eyes will be on Montpellier tonight as PSG chases its fifth Ligue 1 title—and a defining moment in the club’s modern era.
