Lille vs. Marseille: Mavuba Wary Ahead of Potential Farewell Match
As Lille prepares to host Olympique de Marseille this Saturday for Matchday 37 of Ligue 1, captain Rio Mavuba remains cautious despite OM’s mixed form.
Following four consecutive defeats against PSG, Bordeaux, Nantes, and Lorient, Marseille has regained some rhythm, notching wins over Metz and Monaco. However, the team’s earlier momentum under Marcelo Bielsa has clearly faded.
“Marseille has a real armada, even if they’re less strong in the second half of the season,” Mavuba said at a pre-match press conference. “We must remain vigilant—they still have significant attacking power. It will be a big game, hard-fought and uncertain.”
Possible Farewell for Mavuba?
This match could mark Rio Mavuba’s final home appearance in a Lille shirt. The Angola-born midfielder, who has been a long-serving figure at LOSC, is out of contract in June and has yet to decide on his future.
Whether or not he extends his stay, Mavuba’s focus remains on finishing strong, especially against a Marseille side still fighting for a European spot.
