Wydad Casablanca has taken disciplinary action against its players Zuhair Metrji and Hicham Bousfiyan.

The decision comes as a response to their behavior during the derby, which ended with Wydad losing 2-0, and both players have been referred to the disciplinary committee.

The official statement released by the red-clad club reads as follows:

“Following the conduct displayed by Wydad Casablanca players Hicham Abu Sufian and Zuhair Metrji during the match on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, in the 14th round of the professional league against Raja Casablanca, it has been decided to summon the mentioned players to appear before the board on Thursday, January 4, 2024, at twelve o’clock noon (12:00 PM) at the club’s headquarters in the Haj Mohamed Bengelloun complex.”

The decision to refer the players to the disciplinary committee underscores the club’s commitment to maintaining standards of conduct and sportsmanship among its members.

It is not uncommon for such actions to be taken in the aftermath of contentious matches, particularly high-stakes encounters like the derby.

The disciplinary hearings, scheduled for January 4, will provide the players an opportunity to present their perspectives on the events in question.

The outcome will be eagerly awaited by fans and football enthusiasts, as it could have implications for the players’ future participation and the overall dynamics within the club.

Wydad Casablanca remains steadfast in its commitment to upholding the values of fair play and professionalism within the realm of Moroccan football.

The disciplinary proceedings will shed light on the extent of the players’ responsibility for any untoward incidents that occurred during the heated derby clash.
