TP Mazembe Faces Tough Challenge in CAF Champions League Group Stage
Placed in Group A for the CAF Champions League, DR Congo champions Tout Puissant Mazembe will compete against Smouha (Egypt), MA Tetouan (Morocco), and El Hilal (Sudan). Joel Kimwaki, a TPM player, acknowledged the difficulty of the group but stressed the club’s ambitions:
“It’s a very difficult draw, but our ambitions are to go all the way. We will not overlook any club at this stage, even if everyone points to us as the favorites,” Kimwaki said on the club’s official website.
He highlighted the dangers of underestimating teams like Smouha, noting their ambition and the quality of the other clubs in the group. “Moghreb Tetouan is a good team with good players, and El Hilal is a regular on the African scene,” he added.
Meanwhile, Group B features three Algerian clubs — Entente Sétif, USM Alger, and Mouloudia Eulma — along with Sudanese side El Merreikh.
