Olympique Lyonnais (OL) has rekindled its interest in the Guinean international midfielder Mady Camara, as the club seeks to bolster its midfield options. With Camara’s contract set to expire in June 2024 with Olympiakos, OL sees an opportunity to secure a valuable addition to their squad. However, the competition for the midfielder’s signature is expected to be fierce.
The pursuit of a skilled midfielder has been a persistent challenge for OL since December 2022, following a specific request from former manager Laurent Blanc. Despite various attempts to address the deficiency in the midfield, OL has yet to find a lasting solution, with the current midfield options falling short of expectations.
In the ongoing transfer window, OL has explored various avenues, initially considering players like Baptiste Santamaria and Nemanja Matic.
Now, the focus has shifted back to Mady Camara, a seasoned number 8 with an impressive track record of 277 professional matches in Serie A, Super League, Champions League, and Europa League. Known for his ability to distribute the game, strong heading, and excellent ball-striking, Camara aligns with the qualities sought by the seven-time French champion.
OL’s interest in Camara is not new, as the club made a notable attempt to sign him during the last summer transfer window. Despite offering €8 million to Olympiakos, the Greek club rejected the proposal, holding out for €11 million. Now, with Camara’s contract expiration looming in June 2024, OL may have a better chance to secure the midfielder’s services without the transfer fee.
However, OL faces stiff competition for Camara’s signature. Other clubs, including Olympique de Marseille, Sevilla FC, Werder Bremen, and Wolfsburg, have expressed interest in the talented midfielder.
Meanwhile, Olympiakos remains determined to retain one of their key players, with a new contract proposal reportedly in the works.
As the transfer saga unfolds, football enthusiasts will eagerly anticipate the resolution of Mady Camara’s future, keenly aware of the multiple contenders vying for his talents in the competitive landscape of European football.
