CAF Cup: Eleven Creators Target Strong Start Against ASEC Mimosas in Bamako
Malian side Eleven Creators are preparing for a crucial first-leg clash in the CAF Confederation Cup round of 16 as they host Ivorian giants ASEC Mimosas on Sunday at the Modibo Keita Stadium in Bamako.
The match marks a key moment for the Bamako-based club, who face a team with a storied past but one that has seen its influence on the continental stage wane in recent years. Despite no longer being the dominant African force it once was, ASEC arrive in Mali in fine domestic form, currently sitting at the top of the Ivorian league.
With the return leg set to be played in Abidjan, Eleven Creators are under pressure to deliver a strong performance at home to keep their qualification hopes alive.
Speaking ahead of the encounter, assistant coach Demba Traoré acknowledged the challenge but stressed the importance of securing a positive result on home soil.
“We must negotiate both legs carefully if we want to qualify, but since the first leg is in Bamako, we have an obligation to get a result,” Traoré told L’Essor. “I don’t know what ASEC will come with, but we will do everything we can to win.”
Traoré also highlighted the team’s preparations, particularly in attack, as key to their strategy: “We’ve worked hard offensively to make sure we can score goals in the first leg. That’s where it all starts.”
ASEC Mimosas, one of Africa’s most respected clubs historically, may not carry the same aura they once did, but their current form suggests they remain a formidable opponent. Their strong domestic performances signal that the Eleven Creators will need to be at their very best to take advantage at home.
With a spot in the play-off round of the CAF Cup at stake, Sunday’s match could prove pivotal in determining which side progresses. For the Creators, this is more than just a fixture — it’s an opportunity to make their mark on the continental stage.
