Roma’s Pursuit of André Ayew Hits Standstill Amid Premier League Interest
AS Roma’s attempts to secure the signing of André Ayew have reportedly stalled, as the Olympique de Marseille midfielder weighs up his options ahead of a crucial summer.
Ayew, whose contract with Marseille is set to expire at the end of the season, is attracting strong interest from several major European clubs. Premier League sides Newcastle United, Swansea City, Tottenham Hotspur, as well as Bundesliga outfits Bayer Leverkusen and Wolfsburg, are all believed to be monitoring the Ghanaian international closely.
According to La Provence, Roma have already tabled a formal offer for the 25-year-old, including a three-year contract and a €3 million signing bonus. The Italian club, managed by Rudi Garcia — Ayew’s former coach at Marseille — are eager to reunite with the dynamic midfielder and make him a key part of their project moving forward.
However, Ayew is in no rush to make a decision. Aware of the interest surrounding him, the Ghana star is reportedly holding out for a club that can guarantee UEFA Champions League football next season — something Roma have yet to secure. He is also said to be keeping an eye on developments in England, where he has long expressed a desire to play.
Sources close to the player suggest that Ayew dreams of joining Liverpool, a club he has admired since childhood. While no concrete offer has emerged from Anfield, his representatives are believed to be receptive to approaches from English sides.
Ayew has been a central figure for Marseille this season, combining leadership with consistent performances in Ligue 1 and on the European stage. Having risen through the ranks at the French club — where his father, Ghanaian legend Abedi Pelé, once starred — Ayew now looks ready for a new challenge.
Roma remain hopeful that their offer, along with the prospect of reuniting with Garcia, will be enough to lure Ayew to Serie A. But as the summer window approaches, the battle for his signature appears far from over.
