Borussia Dortmund secure midfield boost with Carney Chukwuemeka extension
Borussia Dortmund have acted quickly to keep one of their key winter additions, Carney Chukwuemeka, a little longer.
The midfielder’s loan from Chelsea was set to expire on Monday, but the German giants have successfully extended his stay through the end of the Club World Cup.
Chukwuemeka, who joined during the winter window, has shown strong progress since arriving in Germany. His performances helped Dortmund top their group and head into the knockout stages with momentum.
While he will miss the round of 16 clash against Monterrey due to illness, his impact hasn’t gone unnoticed. Niko Kovac confirmed the midfielder’s absence but praised his group stage showings.
According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Dortmund are now negotiating a new loan deal with Chelsea to keep Chukwuemeka for the entire upcoming season. Talks are expected to continue after the Club World Cup.
So far, the English-Nigerian talent has made 16 appearances and scored once for Dortmund. With the club pushing to hold on to him, it’s clear they see long-term value in his growth.
