Algeria head coach Djamel Belmadi has made a strategic move by including goalkeeper Moustapha Zeghba as the 26th player in the squad for the 2023 African Cup of Nations finals.

This decision comes in the wake of an unfortunate injury to goalkeeper Rais M’Bolhi during the initial training session held in the Togolese capital, Lomé.

Zeghba’s call-up serves as a precautionary measure, demonstrating the Greens’ technical staff’s commitment to ensuring a robust and well-prepared squad for the prestigious tournament.

The unexpected setback with M’Bolhi prompted Belmadi to reinforce the team’s goalkeeping options, and Zeghba emerged as the chosen candidate for this crucial role.

The inclusion of Zeghba reflects the coach’s foresight and dedication to assembling a resilient squad capable of navigating the challenges of the African Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.

The 33-year-old shot stopper plays in the Saudi Pro League for Damac FC, making 11 appearances across all competitions in the 2023-24 campaign.

The former ES Setifienne goalkeeper has made seven international appearances for the Fennec Foxes, mostly in international friendly matches.

Zeghba played a single game for Algeria when they won the FIFA Arab Cup in 2021, held in Qatar.
