Hamza Mathlouthi doubtful for Zamalek SC’s clash against Ghazl El Mahallah

Hamza Mathlouthi’s journey with Zamalek ends not in disappointment, but in triumph.

Once questioned, now celebrated, the Tunisian right-back exits the club this summer after his contract expired, leaving behind a decorated legacy.

Mathlouthi, who joined the Egyptian side from CS Sfaxien in October 2020, struggled early in his stint. Costly errors, especially in the infamous 3-5 loss to Al Ahly in 2021, cast doubt on his future at the club. But the arrival of Jesualdo Ferreira changed everything.

Under the Portuguese tactician, Mathlouthi’s role shifted in a 3-5-2 system. The move rejuvenated his confidence and form. He became a mainstay in the squad, delivering vital goals and standout performances, including a last-minute winner against Arta Solar that kept Zamalek in the Confederation Cup.

He won six titles with the club, including back-to-back league crowns and continental honors. In his farewell, Mathlouthi praised Ferreira: “Great coach, he knew my strengths and weaknesses, and helped me correct my mistakes and improve my performance.”
