Nicolas Anelka in Talks to Become Technical Director at NA Hussein Dey
Nicolas Anelka could soon take on a new challenge — not on the pitch, but behind the scenes. The former French international, known for his unpredictable career choices, is reportedly in advanced discussions to become the technical director of NA Hussein Dey (NAHD) in Algeria.
According to reports from Compétition and Akhbarelyoum, and relayed by footmercato.net, Anelka arrived in Algiers on Wednesday to meet with the club’s leadership. His visit comes nearly a month after being invited by NAHD president Mahfoud Ould Zemirli, sparking initial rumors of a possible playing role.
However, regulatory restrictions in the Algerian league dashed any hopes of Anelka returning as a player. LFP president Mahfoud Kerbadj clarified:
“Only foreign players under 27 and active internationals are allowed to sign in the Algerian championship. There will be no exceptions.”
Now, the 35-year-old former Chelsea, Real Madrid, and PSG striker is instead considering an off-field role. Enthusiastic about what he has seen, Anelka praised the club’s infrastructure:
“From what I see, the club is well structured. It has very good facilities, a training stadium, and all the amenities. It’s really a very good little complex. Very interesting,” he said to Algeria 360°.
Should he accept the role, it would mark Anelka’s first formal post-playing position and a potentially significant move in the development of NAHD.
