Al Ahly’s plans for the coming month have been rocked by the absence of key midfielder Marwan Attia, who will be out for at least four weeks following surgery.
The Egyptian giants confirmed that Attia has finally undergone a long-delayed hernia procedure, one he had put off multiple times to prioritize the team’s busy schedule.
A source within the club told Kooora that the injury had been affecting the player’s performance: “Attia postponed the hernia process more than once because of the team’s commitments, but it affects his level inside the stadium.”
The club’s medical team cleared him to undergo surgery just days after Al Ahly concluded their campaign at the FIFA Club World Cup.
“Marwan Attia will be absent from the red team for a period of not less than 4 weeks, and may increase another week,” the source revealed.
Following the Club World Cup, the technical team has granted the entire squad 18 days of rest. Attia, however, begins his recovery journey as Al Ahly look ahead to a demanding domestic and continental schedule.
