Robert Kidiaba After DRC’s Elimination: “I’m Really Disappointed”
Robert Kidiaba, the veteran goalkeeper of the Democratic Republic of Congo, expressed his deep disappointment following his team’s 3-1 defeat to Ivory Coast in the semi-final of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.
🗣️ “I’m really disappointed. Everyone is disappointed. We believed in it but it didn’t work out.”
Kidiaba lamented the lack of efficiency in front of goal compared to the Ivorians:
🗣️ “Côte d’Ivoire had three chances, they scored. We had several chances but we couldn’t convert them.”
Despite the heartbreak, the 39-year-old goalkeeper acknowledged the progress the team had made:
🗣️ “I’m proud to be playing in my 4th CAN. It’s the first time I’ve reached the semi-finals. We would have liked to go further, but that’s football. We have to get back to work because there’s still a match to play.”

Saturday’s third-place playoff will mark Robert Kidiaba’s final appearance for the DR Congo in international football. A legendary figure, both for his reflex saves and iconic “bum-shuffle” celebration, Kidiaba will look to sign off his national team career with one last victory.
His opponent in the bronze medal match will be decided after Ghana face Equatorial Guinea in the second semi-final.
