AFCON 2015: Equatorial Guinea Wants to Play in Bata, But CAF Opposes

AFCON 2015 – Equatorial Guinea vs. Ghana Semi-Final to Be Held in Malabo, Confirms CAF

The Equatorial Guinea–Ghana semi-final clash in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations will remain in Malabo, as confirmed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). The host nation’s request to relocate the match to the Bata Stadium — where they controversially defeated Tunisia in the quarter-finals — was denied.

This marks the second stadium change request by the Nzalang Nacional during the tournament. While their earlier appeal to move their quarter-final from Ebebiyin to Bata was accepted, CAF has held firm this time, insisting that the second semi-final will be played as scheduled in Malabo on Thursday at 7 p.m. GMT.

It is believed that Equatorial Guinea favored a return to Bata due to superstition and familiarity with the venue. However, CAF’s decision emphasizes neutrality and logistical integrity for the high-stakes encounter against Ghana’s Black Stars.

All eyes will be on Malabo, especially after recent refereeing controversies, with Gabonese referee Eric Otogo Castane appointed to officiate this tense and potentially historic semi-final.
