After a prolonged period of reluctance to represent the Cameroon national football team, versatile Stade Rennais defender André Kanak Biyik has had a change of heart. The son of former Cameroonian international François Oman Biyik has responded positively to the new coach, Jean Paul Akono. Consequently, Kanak Biyik is included in the list published by Coach Akono for the crucial return match against Cape Verde, a decision that strengthens Cameroon’s defense.
Jean Armel Kana-Biyik expressed his attraction to Jean Paul Akono’s vision, stating, “He wants me to be part of the national team, to make my mark to become one of the leaders in a few years. I told him that I was interested in the project and that I accepted it with pleasure and honor.”
Kanak Biyik, who had been torn between his adopted country, France, and his country of origin, ultimately made the decision to represent Cameroon. Influential players like Jean II Makoun played a role in convincing him to join the national team. Kanak Biyik explained, “I talked a lot with Jean II. He told me about the selection, what was around, and I can say that he influenced my choice. There is also our captain Samuel Eto’o, with whom I spoke on the phone, and who also reassured me.”
