Mourtada Ben Yanes has been excluded from Tunisia’s squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2024 due to compelling family reasons, as confirmed by the Tunisian Football Federation in an official statement released on Wednesday.
Jalal Al-Qadri, the coach of the Tunisian national team, made the decision to relieve Mourtada Ben Yanes from participating in the AFCON 2024 finals, citing unavoidable family obligations that require his presence alongside his daughter in Turkey.
The official statement further outlined that Coach Al-Qadri will subsequently make a final decision on whether to replace Ben Yanes with another player or maintain the current squad.
The Tunisian Football Federation is set to submit the final squad list today, marking the deadline for the submission of official team rosters.
Expressing their wishes for the swift recovery and well-being of Mourtada Ben Yanes’ daughter, the Tunisian Football Federation emphasized the understanding and support extended to the player during this challenging time.
It is noteworthy that the Tunisian national team is slated to compete in Group F of the AFCON 2024 tournament, held in Côte d’Ivoire from January 13th to February 11th.
Tunisia will face formidable opponents, including Mali, South Africa, and Namibia, as they vie for success in one of Africa’s most prestigious football competitions.
