AFCON 2015 – Zambia’s Emmanuel Mayuka Ruled Out for Rest of the Tournament

AFCON 2015 – Emmanuel Mayuka Ruled Out of Zambia’s Decisive Clash Against Cape Verde

Zambia’s hopes of reaching the quarter-finals of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations have suffered a blow with the loss of striker Emmanuel Mayuka, who has been ruled out of the tournament due to a hamstring injury.

The Chipolopolos forward sustained the injury during Zambia’s 2-1 loss to Tunisia and had to be substituted. Medical assessments have confirmed the severity of the injury, and Mayuka will now return to his club, Southampton, for further treatment. His tournament is officially over.

This is a setback for the 2012 AFCON champions, who are still in the running for a place in the knockout stages. To qualify, Zambia must beat Cape Verde in their final Group B match on Monday.

Without Mayuka, the Zambian attack will need to reorganize quickly to keep their hopes alive in Equatorial Guinea.
