Diego Simeone, the Argentine coach of Atletico Madrid, has reportedly urged the club’s management to pursue the signing of Moroccan international Bilal El Khnous from Belgian side Genk during the ongoing winter transfer window.
According to the Spanish newspaper “Mundo Deportivo,” Atletico Madrid has identified the Atlas Lions’ midfielder as a top priority for the upcoming winter transfer window.
The same source indicates that Atletico Madrid faces strong competition from several clubs interested in acquiring El Khnous, with Italian side AS Roma and French club Marseille being notable contenders.
Mehdi Benatia, the sporting advisor at Marseille, reportedly proposed El Khnous to the club’s management for a potential transfer in the upcoming winter market.
This move comes after the impressive performances the midfielder has delivered with Genk.
It is worth noting that El Khnous has been called up by national team coach Walid Regragui to join the final squad representing Morocco in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled to take place in Ivory Coast from January 11 to February 13.
