Al Ahly faces contract storm over Ahmed Mostafa Zizo deal with Sports Ministry

Ahmed Mostafa Zizo

Tension is rising between Al Ahly and Egypt’s Ministry of Sports over the club’s newest signing, Ahmed Mostafa Zizo.

The Red Devils are caught in controversy just weeks after securing the winger from rivals Zamalek.

Sources reveal the dispute centers around Zizo’s contract value, which came under review by regulators after it was submitted to the Ministry. Officials reportedly acted on a directive to verify the 2% youth development levy from all professional contracts. Al Ahly had already paid EGP 200,000, 2% of Zizo’s EGP 10 million annual deal, sparking confusion within the administrative circles.

Despite fulfilling the financial obligation, Al Ahly were taken aback when the Ministry officially requested to inspect the contract. The Ministry later confirmed that the club’s procedures were legitimate, but the situation added strain to an already tense relationship.

This incident follows a broader conflict over a proposed law amendment that limits sports boards to eight-year terms, a move Al Ahly has publicly opposed. With both sides standing firm, this latest chapter only deepens the rift between Egypt’s football giants and the state’s sports authority.
