Liverpool have joined the race to sign France-born defender of Angolan descent Castello Lukeba.
The English Premier League club is reportedly eyeing a move for the centre-back from RB Leipzig to replace Jarell Quansah who is said to be on his way to Bayer Leverkusen.
The Reds had shown interest in Lukeba during last summer’s transfer window, though a deal failed to materialise.
Since then, Liverpool scouts have continued to monitor the 21-year-old centre-back closely during his appearances for Leipzig, and the club is now considering a renewed attempt to bring him to Anfield.
With Quansah heading to the Bundesliga, Liverpool’s defensive options are thin, with only Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, and the adaptable Joe Gomez currently available in central defence.
Determined to mount a strong campaign in the Champions League next season, Liverpool are eager to reinforce their back line with a high-quality addition.
Club officials believe Lukeba is the ideal fit and want to do everything to secure his services this summer.
Checks have revealed that RB Leipzig are demanding around €90 million release for the defender.
