The B eninUnder-20 Squirrels played to a (0-0) draw at home against their Togolese counterparts in a friendly international match. The game took place yesterday afternoon at the René Pleven stadium in Cotonou. The Benin team is currently gearing up for the return match in the final round of qualifiers for the 18th edition of the under-20 championship scheduled to take place in Algeria in March 2013.
Despite the Squirrels’ dominance, the Togolese Sparrows, under the guidance of coach Adam Fazazi, held their ground and resisted until the end of the match.
Following the draw, Benin’s coach, Ulrich Allohoutadé, expressed satisfaction with the friendly encounter: “I am very pleased with this friendly match, which not only allowed me to rotate all my players in different positions but also to assess them to determine the ideal lineup for the upcoming match against the Senegalese selection next Saturday. This match is crucial as it is part of the final round of qualifiers for the 18th African Junior Championship under the age of 20,” stated the Benin coach.
Benin is set to travel to Dakar on October 7 for the return match against Senegal’s Lion Cubs. In the previous match in Cotonou, the Squirrels secured a 3-1 victory.
