ADEBAYOR MISSES SPURS’ EUROPA LEAGUE CLASH TO DEAL WITH PERSONAL MATTERS
Tottenham Hotspur will be without Emmanuel Adebayor for their final UEFA Europa League group stage match against Besiktas on Thursday. Although the Togolese striker has recovered from the flu, Spurs confirmed that he was granted two days of leave to attend to a personal matter.
While the club did not disclose specifics, sources suggest that the absence is linked to ongoing family disputes, particularly tensions involving Adebayor’s mother and siblings. The controversy reached public attention weeks ago when Adebayor allegedly accused his mother of witchcraft, prompting backlash from his sister, Maggie, who said:
“Until now, our mother sells polyethylene bags, padlocks and other things at the border between Ghana and Togo. She hasn’t seen him for over a year and he rejects all her calls. She’s not asking for money—just to see her son again.”
Additionally, another source claims Adebayor may be heading to Lomé, Togo, to confront matters involving Gabriel Améyi, the president of the Togolese Football Federation (FTF). Améyi is reportedly under investigation for alleged fraud in a real estate transaction with a Beninese businessman. Meanwhile, reports emerged that Adebayor had filed a complaint against the president of Maranatha FC, though his legal team clarified:
“Adebayor never filed a complaint against Ameyi. Rather, he sent a request for information to clarify the case’s details,” said Martial Akakpo, lawyer for the former MP.
As the saga continues to unfold off the pitch, Spurs hope to keep their European ambitions on track despite the absence of one of their most high-profile players.
