CAMEROON: PIERRE WOMÉ SAYS NO TO THE LIONS

Despite being selected by the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon to participate in a friendly football tournament in India at the end of August, Cameroonian international Pierre Wome Nlend declined the offer extended by coach Emmanuel Bosso. The 35-year-old seasoned player expressed his desire to give a younger player the opportunity to be selected and make a case for the senior Lions.

Wome stated, “This tournament is organized for players who have not yet proven themselves so that they can seize the opportunity to move closer to the senior team.” However, Coach Emmanuel Ndoumbe Bosso remained unfazed by Wome’s decision, noting that the veteran player wasn’t a key part of his plans. Bosso clarified, “I didn’t select Wome, but when I saw his name on the list, I approached him, and he told me he wouldn’t come. But the reason he gave me is not the one he is revealing today.” According to Bosso, Wome initially cited being informed of a senior team selection as the reason for his unavailability.

The local selection of the Indomitable Lions, comprising players based in Cameroon, is set to participate in a friendly international tournament in India from August 20. The tournament includes teams from Syria, Nepal, and the Maldives Islands and serves as part of the team’s preparation for the second edition of CHAN (African Nations Championship), a competition exclusively for players plying their trade on the continent.
