Morocco defender Yunis Abdelhamid leaves French outfit Saint Etienne
Morocco international Yunis Abdelhamid is departing French Ligue 1 outfit Saint Etienne ahead of the new season.
The 37-year-old’s contract with Saint Etienne expires at the end of June. However, with no sign of contract renewal, the experienced defender is set to depart the club, making him a free agent.
Abdelhamid signed one season contract with Saint Etienne back in July 2024, making only 16 appearances in the French Ligue 1 last term. Meanwhile, in all competitive, the centre-back racked up 18 appearances.
Saint Etienne suffered relegation at the end of the campaign after finishing 17th spot and accumulating 30 points.
Abdelhamid has spent a chunk of playing career in France, featuring for Dijon, Stade Reims, Valenciennes, AC Arles-Avignon and others.
Per reports, the former Stade Reims star is set for a sensational return to Morocco this summer. He is expected to continue his career with Moroccan giants AS FAR Rabat.
His potential return to Morocco is refreshing, considering his level as a professional footballer who can add some bite to the Moroccan league.
