AFCON 2015 QUALIFIERS – DR CONGO HOPES FOR A MIRACLE ON FINAL DAY
This Wednesday, the Democratic Republic of Congo will take on Sierra Leone at the Stade Tata Raphaël in Kinshasa for the sixth and final matchday of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
With Cameroon already qualified from Group D, the Leopards of DR Congo are in a tight spot — sitting third behind Ivory Coast. The Congolese need more than just a win; they must also hope that Cameroon defeats the Elephants in Abidjan. Only then can DR Congo snatch second place and a direct ticket to Equatorial Guinea 2015.
“We have to play our game, go forward, create chances, and score goals,” said Neeskens Kebano, as quoted by radiookapi.net.
“There will be opportunities to trouble Sierra Leone.”
Despite their 0-1 loss to Cameroon last weekend, confidence remains high within the squad — buoyed by overwhelming fan support.
“I thank our supporters for the many encouraging messages, on social media and even at the airport. We felt it. Thank you for standing behind us.” Kebano added.
“We’ll do everything to not disappoint and hopefully, we can celebrate our qualification — Inshallah.”
Group D Standings before final matchday:
Cameroon – 13 pts (qualified)
Ivory Coast – 9 pts
DR Congo – 6 pts
Sierra Leone – 1 pt (eliminated)
With DR Congo’s fate now tied to Cameroon’s performance, all eyes in Kinshasa and beyond will be on both matches — as the Leopards chase a last-gasp qualification dream.
