Laporta Eyes Shock Return of Mourinho to Barcelona
Could José Mourinho make a sensational return to FC Barcelona? It’s a bold idea, but one reportedly being floated by Joan Laporta, former president of the Catalan giants (2003–2010), as he prepares for a possible campaign in the club’s upcoming elections.
In comments relayed by L’Équipe, Laporta did not hide his growing interest in returning to the presidency:
“I don’t rule it out. Every day that passes motivates me a little more. But I work, it doesn’t obsess me, it’s not my priority. In life, you have to innovate and it’s difficult to repeat the past. When the time comes, I’ll think about it.”
Behind the scenes, the British press claims Laporta is seriously considering recruiting Mourinho as the marquee name to headline his presidential platform. The Portuguese manager, currently at Chelsea, once worked as an assistant at Barça under Bobby Robson and Louis van Gaal, but his managerial rivalry with the club — especially during his Real Madrid stint — makes this idea controversial.
Whether “The Special One” would leave Stamford Bridge and return to the Camp Nou remains highly doubtful, but Laporta’s apparent willingness to pursue him suggests a campaign strategy built on shock value and ambition. If true, this move could turn the upcoming elections into a political and footballing soap opera.
