MARSEILLE: NO SANCTION FOR DJA DJÉDJÉ AFTER CLASH WITH GIGNAC, BUT DROPPED FOR LENS MATCH
Ahead of Marseille’s Ligue 1 encounter with Lens, coach Marcelo Bielsa addressed the recent altercation between Brice Dja Djédjé and striker André-Pierre Gignac, downplaying its significance and ruling out disciplinary action.
“I have not spoken with them and I will not speak about it. It is an episode that is of course unwanted, but it is not so serious because it does not compromise the unity of the team and the stability of the group,” Bielsa stated during the pre-match press conference. “When this conviviality is affected, intervention will be essential.”
While no formal punishment has been issued, Bielsa has made a tactical decision: Dja Djédjé has been dropped from the matchday squad, with Rod Fanni taking his place in the starting lineup. Gignac, on the other hand, remains a starter.
Olympique de Marseille Starting XI vs Lens:
Mandanda – Romao, Nkoulou, Fanni – Lemina, Imbula, Benjamin Mendy – Thauvin, Payet, André Ayew – Gignac
Bielsa’s decision seems intended to maintain balance and avoid escalation, while still sending a subtle message about squad discipline.
