FTF Extraordinary Congress Officially Postponed Amid FIFA Consultations
As anticipated, the Extraordinary Congress of the Togolese Football Federation (FTF) scheduled for November 4 has been officially postponed. The announcement was made by FTF President Gabriel Améyi, confirming growing speculation following mounting pressure from various Togolese football stakeholders.
“After discussions with FIFA, it was agreed to postpone this congress to a later date in order to resolve outstanding issues,” said Améyi in a formal statement.
Originally planned to take place at the INFA in Tové, the congress was meant to include elections for the Electoral Commission and the Electoral Appeals Commission—key steps in the path toward the next elective congress, which now also remains undated.
With the current FTF executive board’s mandate set to expire on November 4, the postponement raises questions about the leadership vacuum that may follow. Presidential candidate Tino Adjeté has already called on FIFA to intervene by installing a provisional management committee to steer Togolese football through the transition period.
Talks between the FTF and FIFA are ongoing to determine new timelines for the congresses and to ensure a framework for transparent and credible elections, as pressure continues to mount for structural reform within the federation.
