River Plate vice-president Ignacio Villarroel has expressed confidence in Al Ahly’s chances ahead of their FIFA Club World Cup campaign, calling the Egyptian giants a team to watch.
Speaking in a televised interview on Saturday, Villarroel emphasized the strength and reputation of Al Ahly as they prepare to face Inter Miami in the opening match in the United States on Sunday at 3 a.m.
“All clubs have great aspirations to participate in this special global event,” he said.
“With regard to Al Ahly, it is a club we know well, and we are following his career closely, whether in the Egyptian league or the continental.”
“We fully believe that Al Ahly has all the elements that qualify him to provide an honorable performance in the World Cup,” he added.
“The surrounding circumstances also reflect a genuine willingness to take on this big challenge,” Villarroel said.
River Plate, drawn against Urawa, Monterrey, and Inter Milan, also face a tough path. But for Villarroel, the test begins with the first whistle, when everything is still unknown.
