GLO-CAF Awards 2014: Date and Venue of the Ceremony Revealed

2014 GLO-CAF Awards to Take Place in Lagos in January

By BBC Sport Africa

The 2014 GLO-CAF Awards ceremony will be held in Lagos, Nigeria, on January 8, 2015, according to the Confederation of African Football (CAF). The annual event will celebrate the continent’s finest footballing achievements from the past year, with multiple prestigious awards set to be presented across 15 categories.

Among the main accolades are the coveted titles of Best Male and Female Player of the Year, with both set to highlight the finest individual performances in African football. Additionally, the awards will recognise the Best Player Playing on African Soil, the Best National Team, and the Club of the Year, reflecting the diversity and richness of African football across clubs and nations alike.

Other categories will include Referee of the Year, African Legend, Fair Play Award, Platinum Award, African XI, and Young Player of the Year, in recognition of both veteran stars and emerging talents. The ceremony will also highlight skill and brilliance on the field, with trophies for Best Goal and Best Save of the Year.

In total, 15 categories will be honoured during the gala event, which promises to showcase the rich array of talent and achievement across the African football landscape in 2014.

The Best African Player Award is currently held by Ivorian midfielder Yaya Touré, who has won the prestigious prize twice before, in 2011 and 2012. The 31-year-old was instrumental in Manchester City’s triumph in the English Premier League last season, further solidifying his status as one of Africa’s premier footballers. Touré is expected to be among the frontrunners for the 2014 award, though competition is expected to be fierce.

The GLO-CAF Awards have become one of the continent’s premier events, bringing together players, coaches, and officials from across Africa for a night of celebration. With the ceremony now less than two months away, anticipation is building for a memorable evening of recognition for African football’s finest talent in 2014.
